Register Now for the WVSBHA Annual Meeting on March 28, 2007

Legislative Study Resolution on WV School Health Introduced
A legislative study resolution on school health in WV has been introduced in both the House and Senate! HCR 53/SCR 48 requests that the Legislative Oversight Commission on Education Accountability and the Legislative Oversight Commission on Human Resources Accountability seek to establish a school health system for the 21st century which includes coordination among school nurses, school based health centers, local medical, dental and mental health services and public health resources.  To view the text of the resolution, please visit the legislative web-site at www.legis.state.wv.us.

School-Based Health Clinic Act Introduced by US Senate  An important (and historic!) first step was taken on February 15, 2007 with the introduction of the School-Based Health Clinic Establishment Act of 2007 (S. 600) by Senators Dodd (D-CT), Smith (R-OR), Bingaman (D- NM), Collins (R-ME), Kennedy (D-MA), Snowe (R-ME) and Vitter (R-LA). The School-Based Health Clinic Establishment Act will (1) Authorize the first-ever federal program for school-based health centers, and (2) Authorize $50 million for FY2008.  In the upcoming months we’ll be working with NASBHC and our Congressional leaders to introduce the same bill in the House of Representatives.
